History of Art Senior Seminar Students Explore American Art in New York City

The History of Art Department's senior research seminar class traveled to New York City over fall break (Oct 15-17), led by Professor Jody Patterson and PhD student Rachel Steele. Together, explored collections and installations at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Following the course's theme, the trip focused closely on historiography, the status of American art within international art historical narratives, and discussions of research methods in preparation for students to conduct field work.

Students also spoke with alumna Adelia Gregory, Educator in Charge, Public Programs and Engagement and Professor Emeritus Christian Kleinub at the MET, describing how they took their experiences at the Department of History of Art into arts careers in the city. The trip was fully funded for all students.

More details to come about this year's trip in the department newsletter this fall.
